Susan Johnson
Secretary
I was born and raised in Kannapolis NC where I lived with my parents and my sister. I attended Rowan Cabarrus Community College , majoring in Criminal Justice. In 1992 I began my career as a Deputy Sheriff with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office where I retired in January 2022.
I grew up in a Presbyterian Church until I was a young adult and then transitioned into the Baptist Church. Like most church’s, when I was in youth we attended many Christian Conferences, which was my first real understanding what Salvation really meant. My only memory of the day I asked Jesus into my heart and life is it was a feeling like I have never felt.
Our youth group was attending a conference in Gatlinburg, TN. We were listening to a speaker/preacher and at the end he opened altar call. The tug on my heart to get up out of my seat and kneel down was so overwhelming all I could do was sob uncontrollably. I was holding hands with two of my friends as we all had our heads bowed. I know I was hurting their hands because I was squeezing so tight. My friend leaned over and whispered in my ear “go Susan, it's ok”. All I remember is getting up and falling to my knees!! When God is speaking to your heart, you may not have the same experience I did or anyone else, but it will be very obvious He is speaking to you and calling you! Listen to his calling! You will be forever changed!
I was raised in a Christian home, my parents always tried to instill Christian values in our lives and made sure we were involved in church. In 1994, my beautiful daughter ,Taylor was born. She and I tackled the world together (only by the Grace of God and the help of my parents of course) until I married my husband Jody in 2012, he and his son Jacob joined our family! I always say my husband is the “calm to my storm”. He is laid back, easy going, go with the flow kind of person. Which is the opposite of me so we compliment each other very well. I am very blessed with a wonderful family!
I was not seeking employment at all when God moved and presented this opportunity but I am so grateful that God opened the door for me to serve Him and my church family here at The Brook!
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
